    From Helminthic Therapy wiki

Here a proposal in order to make these lists more usable by doctors and scientists for whom the name of the journal and its impact factor are important data.

The idea is also to keep the list easy to read.

A proposal is to remove pmc full text and direct pdf link when it's easy to get from the pubmed. It's easy to retrieve the full text or PDF: this will always be easy to do, sometimes with just one or two extra clicks when the PMC is available. The extra time it takes to retrieve the PDF is negligible compared to the time spent reading the article. For people who add articles to the wiki on a intensive basis, this will save time.

    Current version[edit | edit source]

It was established in the Yahoo Helminthic Therapy forum (in use from 2007 to 2019) that HT self-treaters appreciated being given three links to any scientific papers that were shared in the group - the abstract, the full text and the PDF, or as many of these as were available. This format, which was later also adopted in the wiki from its inception in Jan 2017, allows a reader to choose their preferred document type and then go directly to this with a single click.

The vast majority of the members of helminthic therapy groups, and of visitors to the wiki, are not scientists or medical professionals and none of them have ever requested any additional details beyond the abstract/full text/PDF. They appreciate the simplicity of this format, especially the many who leave trying this therapy till last and are consequently often too ill by the time they’re ready to consider it to be able to do much research. They just want the bottom line.

The few people who might conceivably want more detail about a paper invariably have the knowledge and skill to be able to locate whatever additional detail they require from links in the abstract.

Current version with no full text or PDF links[edit | edit source]

This might be a default entry version when there is not enough time to immediately add links to the full text and PDF. In this version, the PDF would only be included if it's not available on Pubmed.

Current version with journal name added[edit | edit source]

The name of the newspaper is important information for scientists, doctors, and certain visitors. They prioritize consulting reputable titles. The disadvantage of adding the title is that it slows down the quick browsing of the list with line breaks.

Possible alternative version with journal name but no full text or PDF links[edit | edit source]

This is Jlm's preferred version, as well as that of one other scientist questioned on this subject. In this version, PMC full text and PDF are removed when it's easy to get them from Pubmed. For the May 2024 paper, the PDF is there because it's not on accessible on the Pubmed version. The title of the journal is an important factor for those who regularly read scientific publications. They prioritize prestigious titles (Nature, Science, Cell) in their reading. By removing the “full text” and PDF links, line breaks can be avoided while adding the titles of the journals. The full text is easily accessible via the PubMed link.

Possible alternative version with journal name and impact factor but no full text or PDF links[edit | edit source]

Some doctors take the journal's impact factor into account when choosing articles. This option is not preferred because it is time-consuming to enter and not aesthetically pleasing.

Pubmed citation version[edit | edit source]

This standard citation format will be familiar to academics and medics, but unnecessarily complex for the majority of wiki visitors, whose gaze will have to jump around from one title to another while trying to scan the list.
