Helminthic therapy and cystic fibrosis
Cystic fibrosis (CF) is a systemic genetic disorder affecting multiple body systems, with the lungs being the organ system most significantly impacted.
Since it is a genetic, rather than an immune-related disorder, helminths might appear to have little if any role in its treatment. However, CF patients can experience chronic inflammation that can cause lung damage. [1] As helminths are very effective controllers of inflammation, they may, after all, have a role in helping to improve quality of life for CF patients.
The airways of CF patients can also produce thick, abnormal mucus which can promote infection and make its treatment more difficult. This feature may be something else with which helminthic therapy could help.

- DMSO might be helpful in cystic fibrosis by acting as a "chemical chaperone" to transport functional CTFR proteins to the cell membrane.
